Lucknow, September 26, 2026: Uttar Pradesh has witnessed a major expansion in tourism over the past nine years, with tourist arrivals rising from 21.5 crore in 2016 to more than 156 crore in 2025, marking nearly a 7.25-fold increase. During the same period, the state’s tourism budget has increased by nearly 20 times, reflecting the government’s continued focus on strengthening the sector. Tourism and Culture Minister Jaiveer Singh said, “On World Tourism Day, I extend my warm greetings to the people of Uttar Pradesh and everyone associated with the tourism sector. Uttar Pradesh has immense potential rooted in its spiritual, cultural and historical heritage, and this year’s focus on Digital Agenda and Artificial Intelligence highlights how technology can help us offer visitors better information, improved facilities and a more seamless travel experience.” He said the state government is working to combine heritage with modern technology to further strengthen tourism, with emphasis on digital connectivity of destinations, improved visitor facilities and greater participation of local communities. These efforts are also aimed at creating more employment and strengthening economic activity at the local level. As part of World Tourism Day celebrations, the Uttar Pradesh Tourism Department, in collaboration with the Uttar Pradesh Hotel & Restaurant Association (UPHRA), will host a special industry interaction on September 27 at Hotel Dayal Paradise, Lucknow, from 3 pm to 5 pm. Tourism experts, hotel and hospitality industry representatives and other stakeholders will exchange views on emerging opportunities, innovation and improving visitor experiences, with discussions focusing on the role of digital technology and Artificial Intelligence in shaping tourism in Uttar Pradesh. The programme will be followed by high tea. With a growing tourist base and expanding infrastructure, Uttar Pradesh is strengthening technology-driven and accessible tourism while bringing industry stakeholders together to explore new opportunities, encourage innovation and enhance visitor experiences across the state.
