Alka Yagnik Shares Health Update, Says She Is Still Recovering from Rare Hearing Disorder

Maharashtra | 31 March 2026

Veteran playback singer Alka Yagnik has shared a fresh update on her health, revealing that she is still dealing with a rare hearing disorder that has kept her away from new projects. In a recent interview, the singer stated that she continues to face challenges due to the condition and has therefore not taken up any new assignments despite receiving offers from music composers.

Speaking about her situation, Yagnik said that although she is regularly approached for work, she is currently unable to commit due to her ongoing health concerns. She was diagnosed in 2024 with a rare form of sensorineural nerve hearing loss, reportedly caused by a sudden viral attack. The condition significantly impacted her ability to hear, forcing her to step back from professional engagements.

Her last recorded song was “Naram Kaalja” from the film Amar Singh Chamkila, composed by A. R. Rahman. Earlier this year, she was honoured with the Padma Bhushan by the Government of India, one of the country’s highest civilian awards. Reflecting on the recognition, Yagnik said she welcomed it with gratitude, adding that such honours are meaningful whenever they come.

In 2024, the singer had publicly shared her diagnosis through social media, describing the sudden hearing loss as an unexpected setback. She had also urged fans to be mindful of prolonged exposure to loud music and headphones. Known for iconic songs across decades, including tracks from films like Mohra, Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak, Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, and Tamasha, Yagnik remains a celebrated voice in Indian music as she continues her recovery journey.
