Road Cave-In Reported on Lucknow Green Corridor Just Days After Inauguration

Lucknow | 15 March 2026

A section of road on the newly inaugurated Green Corridor in Lucknow developed a cave-in just two days after its opening, raising concerns about the ambitious connectivity project. The incident occurred on Sunday on the stretch connecting Hanuman Setu to Nishatganj. Fortunately, no vehicles were passing at high speed when the road sank on the left side, preventing any accident.

After receiving information about the incident, teams from the Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) rushed to the site and immediately began repair work. Workers at the spot said that soil near a sewer line had shifted, which caused the road surface to collapse. Officials stated that once repairs are completed, the route will be reopened for traffic. The affected road connects important offices such as the Sanskrit Institute and the RERA office.

The second phase of the Green Corridor project, built at a cost of ₹1,519 crore, was inaugurated on March 13 by Rajnath Singh and Yogi Adityanath. During the event, they also laid the foundation stones for the third and fourth phases of the project, which aims to improve connectivity between old and new areas of Lucknow.

Earlier, soil settlement had also been noticed at a few spots along the corridor near Birbal Sahni Marg, close to Sankalp Vatika. However, LDA officials dismissed claims of structural issues. Additional Secretary Gyanendra Verma said that the soil movement happened while installing crash barriers for vehicle safety, adding that deep digging is required for such installations to prevent vehicles from falling during accidents.
