Election Commission to Announce Schedule for Five State Assembly Polls Today
New Delhi | 15 March 2026
The Election Commission of India will announce the schedule for the upcoming Assembly elections in four states and one union territory on Sunday. The poll body has called a press conference at 4 pm to release the election timeline and provide details about the voting phases.
Assembly elections are due in West Bengal, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Assam and the union territory of Puducherry. The terms of the current legislative assemblies in these regions are scheduled to end on different dates in May and June, making it necessary for the elections to be conducted before the expiry of their tenures.
Officials said that preparations for the elections have already progressed, including the completion of a special intensive revision of the voter lists. The final electoral rolls for all five poll-bound regions have been published to ensure that eligible voters can participate in the democratic process.
The announcement comes after the Election Commission held a key meeting earlier this week in New Delhi to finalise the polling schedule and phase-wise election plan. The commission had also conducted its final ground assessment in the states and union territory to review election readiness before declaring the dates.
