Endgame Surpasses Avatar Again to Retake Global Box Office Crown
New Delhi, October 05, 2026
Avengers: Endgame has once again climbed to the top of the worldwide box office, with its reported global earnings reaching approximately USD 2.9255 billion. The Marvel blockbuster has narrowly moved ahead of Avatar, which has a lifetime worldwide total of around USD 2.9237 billion, putting the two films back into a remarkably close race for the all-time record.
The latest shift was driven by the film’s ‘Endgame: Encore’ theatrical return, which contributed roughly USD 126 million to its worldwide collection. The re-release opened with about USD 86 million globally, although its performance eased in the following weekend. It earned approximately USD 4.4 million in North America and USD 14.4 million internationally, placing seventh at the domestic box office during its second weekend.
Those additional earnings, however, proved enough for Endgame to regain the top position worldwide. Marvel Studios celebrated the achievement on social media, writing, “Thank you for assembling to make Avengers: Endgame the biggest movie of all time. We love you 3000.” The Russo brothers also thanked fans for returning to cinemas, saying, "Thank you for coming back to theaters for Endgame Encore and making Endgame the #1 film of all time. To every fan who’s been part of this journey for the last seven years, we love you 3000," in a social media post.
The contest between Endgame and Avatar has repeatedly shifted over the years. Endgame first overtook Cameron’s blockbuster in 2019, before Avatar regained the record following a 2021 re-release in China. The latter later added more to its worldwide total through another theatrical re-release in September 2022. With ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ scheduled to arrive in cinemas on December 18, 2026, the Endgame Encore release has also brought renewed attention to Marvel’s Avengers franchise ahead of its next major chapter.
