A deadly accident on a mountain road in Uttarakhand’s Dehradun district has left one person dead and two others seriously injured. The crash occurred on Friday in the Tyuni area, where a Ford car reportedly went out of control, hit a roadside pole and plunged into a gorge around 100 metres deep.

The deceased was identified as 39-year-old Durgesh Chaudhary. The accident occurred on a remote mountain road below the Chakrata motorway. The vehicle, bearing registration number UP37P6641, was travelling along the narrow road when it suddenly veered off course before crashing through the roadside area and falling into the ravine.

A 22-second clip recorded by an onboard camera has surfaced on social media, showing the moments immediately before the crash. The footage shows the car moving along the mountain road before it appears to lose control, strike a roadside pole and plunge into the gorge. Officials have not yet established what caused the vehicle to go out of control.

Once the accident was reported, teams from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and local police reached the location and began the rescue operation. The difficult mountainous terrain and considerable depth of the gorge made access to the wreckage challenging. After sustained efforts, rescuers brought out two survivors and recovered Chaudhary’s body, which was subsequently handed over to the police.

The two survivors were identified as 27-year-old Sunil Mandal and Rishabh, both residents of Dehradun, according to the Times of India. Both sustained serious injuries and were shifted to a nearby hospital for urgent treatment. Further details regarding their health condition are awaited.

The crash has once again highlighted the dangers associated with driving on narrow and challenging mountain roads. As the exact reason behind the loss of control remains under investigation, the rescue operation brought the tragic consequences of the accident to an end, with one fatality and two people receiving medical treatment.
