Mumbai, September 20, 2026
A high-speed BMW crash on Mumbai’s Coastal Road turned fatal in the early hours of Sunday, leaving three people dead and another critically injured. The black BMW was travelling from Marine Drive towards Haji Ali when the driver allegedly lost control, hit the bridge’s boundary wall and plunged into an area where parking work was underway.
All four occupants were rushed to Nair Hospital following the crash. Doctors declared 21-year-old Shanay Gajjal, 17-year-old Dhairya Darshan Seth and 19-year-old Aditya Jakasniya dead on arrival. The fourth occupant, 23-year-old Aditya Kalpeshwar Oswal, was admitted to the trauma ward and remains in critical condition. The Coastal Road Control Room received information about the accident at around 5:20 am.
The force of the collision left the BMW severely wrecked. Its roof was pushed inward, the windshield shattered into numerous pieces and the front portion was completely crushed, with the bumper torn away and internal components exposed. The vehicle also tore through a signboard hanging from the bridge, highlighting the intensity of the impact.
Police are now investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash and are examining how the vehicle lost control. The incident comes weeks after Mumbai Police registered cases against six to seven supercars, including a Lamborghini, BMW M2 and BMW Z4, over alleged racing inside the Coastal Road tunnel on September 3. The cases were registered under Sections 281 and 125 of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita for negligent driving and endangering life or personal safety.
