Kerala’s rain and flood situation remains serious, with the death toll from rain-related incidents rising to 15 and seven people still missing, Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan said on Monday. Relief and rescue operations continue across affected districts as authorities monitor the situation.

Satheesan said Kottayam recorded three deaths, including two in the Poonjar Assembly constituency and a child who drowned after falling into a water tank. Ernakulam reported two deaths, while Idukki and Muvattupuzha recorded one each. Kollam reported two deaths, Malappuram four, and Kannur and Kozhikode one each. The seven missing people include two from Kollam, two from Kannur, and one each from Malappuram, Idukki and Muvattupuzha.

As of 9 am on Monday, 316 relief camps were functioning across Kerala, sheltering 11,018 people displaced by rain and flooding. The India Meteorological Department has forecast heavy rainfall on August 3 and 6, accompanied by winds of 40–50 kmph. Fishermen were also advised against venturing into the Kerala-Karnataka-Lakshadweep coast on August 2 and 3 due to the possibility of winds reaching 60 kmph and rough seas.

The Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services has warned of 2.7–3.5 metre-high waves along the northern Kerala coast and urged fishermen and coastal residents to remain vigilant. With more rain expected, authorities continue to focus on relief efforts and public safety across the state.
