India’s boxing campaign at the Commonwealth Games 2026 in Glasgow received a major boost as Ankush and Sachin advanced to the quarterfinals in their respective weight categories. Their impressive performances have kept the country’s medal hopes alive, with both boxers now just one victory away from securing a podium finish. Under the tournament’s boxing format, a quarterfinal win guarantees a medal.

In the men’s 80kg category, 2025 World Boxing Cup silver medallist Ankush delivered a dominant display to defeat Antigua and Barbuda’s Jalan by a unanimous 5-0 decision in the pre-quarterfinals. The Indian boxer controlled the contest from the opening bell, winning all three rounds convincingly as all five judges awarded him the highest score in every round, sealing a comprehensive victory.

In the men’s 60kg division, Sachin booked his place in the last eight after defeating England’s William Hewitt by a 4-1 split decision. He impressed throughout the bout with sharp combinations, accurate punches and an effective game plan. Despite losing a point during the contest, Sachin maintained control of the ring with his attacking approach, earning 29-27 scores from four judges, while one judge ruled in favour of Hewitt.

With both Ankush and Sachin now through to the quarterfinals, India’s boxing contingent stands on the brink of adding more medals to its Commonwealth Games tally. A win in their next bouts will officially guarantee them a place on the podium, further strengthening India’s medal prospects in Glasgow.
