NHAI Unveils Digital Toll Pass and Smart Highway Assistance
New Delhi, July 20, 2026
As India continues to accelerate its digital transformation, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has introduced two technology-driven services on the RajmargYatra mobile application to make highway travel faster, simpler, and more commuter-friendly. The launch of the Digital Local Pass and the MargMitra Help Centre reflects a broader push towards seamless public services by reducing paperwork and improving access to essential highway-related facilities.
The newly introduced Digital Local Pass enables eligible commuters to purchase monthly toll passes directly through the RajmargYatra app without visiting a toll plaza. The service has been launched initially at the Mundka-Bakkarwala Toll Plaza on Delhi's Urban Extension Road-II (UER-II) and will be expanded to more toll plazas across the country in the coming months. Residents living within a 20-kilometre radius of an eligible toll plaza can obtain a monthly pass for unlimited travel through that toll plaza. The system verifies eligibility digitally through consent-based integration with DigiLocker and VAHAN, along with GIS-based validation, making the process quicker, more transparent, and free from manual documentation.
NHAI has also launched the MargMitra Help Centre, a digital assistance platform integrated into the RajmargYatra app that provides a single-window support system for National Highway users. Through a conversational interface, commuters can type or speak queries in any of the 22 Indian languages to access information on FASTag recharge, KYC, refund status, Annual Pass and Local Pass services, along with other frequently asked questions. The platform also allows users to register grievances, track complaint status in real time, file appeals, check FASTag blacklisting status, view pending electronic notices, and report road safety issues such as stalled vehicles or encroachments on National Highways.
According to NHAI, the new services build on the success of the RajmargYatra app's Annual Pass facility, through which more than 80 lakh Annual Passes have already been sold with real-time activation. The authority has encouraged National Highway users to download the RajmargYatra app on Android and iOS platforms to access its expanding range of digital services, saying the latest initiatives are part of its continued effort to modernise India's highway ecosystem while delivering transparent, efficient, and citizen-centric services.
