Uttarakhand has taken a significant step towards building a technology-driven future with the launch of its Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) Policy 2026. The initiative reflects the state's vision of using scientific advancement and innovation as key tools for sustainable development, improved public services and long-term economic growth. By connecting research, technology and governance, the policy aims to create a stronger ecosystem for innovation across sectors.

The new policy focuses on integrating science and technology into critical areas such as education, healthcare, agriculture, disaster management and governance. It seeks to bring together researchers, startups, innovators, scientists and young entrepreneurs on a common platform while encouraging the use of both modern technology and traditional knowledge. The government has also proposed institutional mechanisms to improve coordination between departments, industries and research organizations for effective implementation.

A major highlight of the policy is its emphasis on emerging technologies, including Artificial Intelligence, Blockchain, Robotics, Drones, Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality. Plans have been outlined to establish Science Cities, Science Centres, Planetariums, AI Labs, Atal Tinkering Labs and Centres of Excellence across the state. The policy also aims to strengthen intellectual property support and improve access to scientific data generated through publicly funded research.

With a focus on innovation-led growth, the STI Policy 2026 is expected to help Uttarakhand address local challenges such as climate change, disaster preparedness and environmental conservation in the Himalayan region. The initiative is designed to promote scientific thinking, encourage inclusive participation and position the state as a hub for research, technology and sustainable development in the years ahead.
