India-Cyprus Relations Gain Momentum with High-Level Talks

New Delhi, May 22, 2026

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to hold bilateral discussions with Cyprus President Nikos Christodoulides in New Delhi, underlining the growing strategic and diplomatic engagement between the two nations. The meeting reflects India’s continued efforts to strengthen ties with European partners while expanding cooperation in trade, technology, and global affairs.

President Christodoulides arrived in India on a four-day State visit and received a ceremonial welcome in the capital. He is accompanied by senior officials, ministers, and business representatives. The visit follows PM Modi’s landmark trip to Cyprus last year, which helped open a new chapter in bilateral relations after a long diplomatic gap at the highest level.

The talks are expected to focus on key sectors including investment, innovation, education, defence, mobility, FinTech, and emerging technologies. Both leaders are also likely to exchange views on regional and international developments, along with cooperation in multilateral platforms. Several agreements are expected to be discussed as both countries look to deepen economic and strategic collaboration.

The visit is being viewed as an important step in enhancing India-Cyprus relations ahead of Cyprus taking over the Presidency of the Council of the European Union. With diplomatic ties between the two countries nearing 65 years, the discussions are expected to further strengthen political cooperation, economic partnerships, and people-to-people engagement.
