New Delhi,  May 12, 2026

A major political event is set to take place in Assam as Prim Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah are scheduled to attend the swearing-in ceremony of Himanta Biswa Sarma in Guwahati. The event marks the beginning of Sarma’s second consecutive term as Chief Minister after the BJP-led NDA’s strong performance in the Assembly elections.

The oath-taking ceremony will be held at the Khanapara Veterinary College ground, where several senior BJP and NDA leaders are also expected to be present. The BJP alliance secured a massive mandate, winning 102 seats in the 126-member Assam Assembly, strengthening its hold in the state.

Heavy security arrangements and traffic diversions have been put in place across Guwahati ahead of the high-profile ceremony. Large crowds of party workers and supporters are also expected to gather for the occasion.

The event is being seen as a significant moment for the BJP in the Northeast, highlighting the party’s continued political dominance in Assam under Himanta Biswa Sarma’s leadership.
