Hyderabad Police Bust ₹6.78 Crore Fake Currency Racket, Four Arrested
New Delhi, November 04, 2026
A major counterfeit currency operation has been uncovered in Hyderabad, exposing an alleged network involved in printing fake notes and impersonating police personnel to extort money. In a joint operation, the Future City Commissionerate and Shadnagar Special Operations Team (SOT) arrested four suspects and recovered counterfeit currency with a face value of ₹6.78 crore.
According to police, the accused were allegedly running the operation from a rented property in Kuntloor. They reportedly used Photoshop software to produce counterfeit ₹500 notes. The scale of the recovery has brought the alleged activities of the network under scrutiny.
During the search, investigators also recovered forged identity cards, dummy pistols and walkie-talkies. The gang allegedly used these items to pose as police officers and extort genuine cash from people, adding another dimension to the case beyond counterfeit currency production.
While four suspects have been taken into custody, three others remain absconding. Police are continuing their efforts to trace the remaining accused and investigate the alleged racket. The operation has exposed the suspected use of counterfeit currency alongside impersonation tactics to carry out financial extortion.
