A fatal aircraft accident in South Florida claimed nine lives on Sunday after a private business jet plunged into a residential neighbourhood and burst into flames. The crash triggered a massive fireball, with the aircraft reportedly coming dangerously close to nearby homes before going down near a busy roadway. The incident has drawn the attention of US aviation authorities, who are now investigating the circumstances surrounding the disaster.

US Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy confirmed that all nine people aboard the Learjet 60 were killed. In a post on X, he stated that the aircraft crashed in Palm Beach County at approximately 12:50 p.m., describing the incident as a "horrific tragedy." According to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), the jet had departed from Austin-Bergstrom International Airport in Texas and was bound for the Bahamas.

The FAA is sending a team to assist the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) in determining the cause of the crash. Meanwhile, authorities have not released the identities of the passengers or established what led to the aircraft going down. Jim Reynolds, spokesperson for Austin-Bergstrom International Airport, confirmed that the aircraft was privately operated but said he could not immediately provide details about the people on board. Reacting to the incident, he said, "This is definitely a tragedy."
