Damage Reported to Saudia Aircraft After Riyadh Missile Incident

New Delhi, 09 October 2026

Fresh concerns over aviation security in Saudi Arabia have emerged after images circulated online appeared to show a damaged Saudia Airbus A310-200 at King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh. The reported damage followed an alleged Houthi ballistic missile attack on October 8, although the circumstances surrounding the incident have not yet been independently established.

The Houthis claimed responsibility for launching a missile towards Saudi Arabia's main airport. However, Saudi authorities have not confirmed that the aircraft was directly hit, and both the images and the reported cause of the damage remain independently unverified. Saudi air defences reportedly intercepted two ballistic missiles heading towards Riyadh and another targeting Khamis Mushait.

The latest development follows deadly attacks on airports in Riyadh and Abha that reportedly killed three people and injured 36 others. The incidents have intensified concerns about airport security and the potential risks to civilian aviation amid escalating regional tensions.

Amid the growing security concerns, Air India, Akasa Air and Lufthansa Group have announced flight suspensions. The reported aircraft damage and missile interceptions have further raised questions about the safety of air travel in the region. However, the exact circumstances of the latest incident remain unclear, with independent verification and official confirmation still awaited.
