A domestic dispute at a Delhi home turned fatal after a 31-year-old software engineer allegedly died following an assault by members of his wife’s family. The incident has raised serious allegations of a planned attack, with the victim’s family claiming that a disagreement over their infant’s medicine escalated into a violent confrontation.

The incident reportedly took place when Vinay Gupta and his wife, Rekha, argued over giving medicine to their child. Rekha allegedly contacted her family and left the house before returning around 10 minutes later with her two brothers, sister-in-law, father, uncle and other relatives. CCTV footage purportedly showed Rekha in a red suit and her sister-in-law in a blue suit, while her brothers, father and another man were allegedly seen arriving in a car. The group subsequently began assaulting Vinay, according to the allegations.

Vinay’s mother, who lived with the couple, said she had stepped out to arrange water and refreshments for the visitors when the alleged assault began. On returning, she found her son being attacked and tried to intervene, calling for help and pleading with those involved to stop. The victim’s family alleged that his in-laws strangled him and repeatedly hit and kicked him in the chest. They also claimed the attack was part of a pre-planned conspiracy and alleged that Rekha had switched off all the CCTV cameras in the house before the incident. Vinay was later rushed to a hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

Vinay worked at Adobe in Noida and reportedly had an annual package of around Rs 60 lakh. He had married Rekha around three-and-a-half years ago, and the couple had four-and-a-half-month-old twins, a boy and a girl. As the investigation continues, police have arrested four people — Rekha, her two brothers and one sister-in-law — in connection with the case, while the circumstances and allegations surrounding the fatal incident remain under investigation.
