India and Afghanistan are set to strengthen their growing cricketing relationship with a three-match T20I series in Delhi in September. All three matches will be played at the Arun Jaitley Cricket Stadium, with the series adding another important chapter to the sporting ties between the two countries.

Despite all three matches being held in India, Afghanistan will be the official host of the series. Afghanistan has increasingly conducted its home fixtures outside the country, with India becoming one of its important venues. The first T20I will be played on September 13, followed by the second on September 15 and the third on September 17. The series forms part of Afghanistan's Future Tours Programme (FTP) and will provide the side with an opportunity to compete against one of the world's top cricket teams while further strengthening its relationship with the BCCI.

BCCI President Mithun Manhas said that the board is committed to supporting the growth of cricket in Afghanistan and will continue providing its players with opportunities to compete at the highest level. He stressed the importance of bilateral cricket in allowing teams to regularly face strong opposition and gain valuable experience. BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia said the India-Afghanistan rivalry has produced several exciting contests over the years and pointed to the popularity of Afghan cricketers in India. He also described India's hosting of Afghanistan's first historic Test in 2018 as an important milestone in the development of their cricketing relationship.

ACB President Mirwais Ashraf called the series significant for Afghanistan cricket, describing the opportunity to host a ‘home’ series in India as an important achievement and appreciating the BCCI's support. He noted that Afghanistan has held home matches in both India and the UAE in recent years and said India was an ideal venue for such an important series. DDCA President Rohan Jaitley also welcomed both teams to the capital and said hosting all three games at the Arun Jaitley Stadium would be a special opportunity for Delhi's cricket fans.

The series will complete India's and Afghanistan's three-format cricket engagements in 2026. The teams had already met in Test and ODI cricket in June, while their previous three-match T20I series was played in January 2024. With all three T20Is scheduled in Delhi, the upcoming series will offer another platform for both sides to compete at the highest level and further deepen their cricketing partnership.
