India Raises Diplomatic Concern After Fresh Attack on Ship Carrying Indian Crew

New Delhi, June 12, 2026

Growing instability along key maritime routes has once again brought the safety of commercial vessels into focus after another merchant ship carrying Indian crew members came under attack near Oman. The incident has added to concerns over increasing risks to civilian shipping operations in the region and prompted a swift diplomatic response from New Delhi.

Following the attack, India summoned U.S. Deputy Chief of Mission Jason Meeks to formally register its concern. This marks the second such diplomatic communication within a short span after incidents involving vessels linked to Indian nationals. Officials highlighted the seriousness of repeated threats to merchant shipping and emphasised the importance of ensuring the safety of seafarers.

Reports indicated that Indian crew members were onboard the vessel and no casualties were reported. The government conveyed its position regarding the security of Indian nationals and stressed that civilian maritime movement should not become vulnerable amid regional tensions.

As uncertainty continues to affect international sea routes, India’s response reflects a broader concern over protecting commercial navigation and maintaining stability in strategically important waters through diplomatic engagement and international responsibility.
