India Draws a Firm Line on Nepal Border Dispute

New Delhi, June 2, 2026

India has delivered a clear message amid renewed discussion over the border dispute with Nepal, stressing that such issues can only be resolved through direct bilateral engagement. The response came after remarks by Nepal’s prime minister sparked debate over the handling of longstanding territorial disagreements between the two neighbours.

The controversy gained attention after Nepal’s Prime Minister stated that both India and Nepal had encroached on each other’s land. He also indicated that discussions had taken place with other parties, including the United Kingdom, regarding the issue. The comments quickly became a subject of political debate within Nepal, with opposition groups seeking clarification from the government.

The latest exchange has once again brought focus to the unresolved boundary issues involving Kalapani, Lipulekh and Limpiyadhura. These areas have remained points of disagreement for years, with both countries maintaining their respective positions. India has consistently maintained that such sensitive matters should be addressed through established diplomatic channels and mutual dialogue.

By reiterating its position, India has underlined that it does not support any third-party role in resolving the border dispute. The development highlights the importance both nations place on diplomatic engagement, with future discussions expected to play a key role in managing differences and maintaining the broader relationship between the two neighbours.
