Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday underscored the rapid expansion of solar energy adoption across the country, calling it a key pillar of India’s clean energy transition. Speaking during the 132nd edition of his monthly radio programme Mann Ki Baat, he said that collective efforts and government initiatives are playing a crucial role in addressing global challenges such as climate change.

The Prime Minister pointed to a visible transformation in cities and towns, where rooftop solar panels are becoming increasingly common. He credited this shift to the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, noting that the scheme is not only promoting renewable energy but also empowering citizens by reducing electricity costs and generating additional income opportunities.

Highlighting real-life examples, Modi spoke about individuals benefiting from solar adoption. He mentioned a trained solar technician from Gujarat who has turned entrepreneur by installing rooftop systems, and a resident of Meerut who is producing solar energy to meet his needs while selling excess power. He also cited a farmer in Jaipur who has shifted to solar-powered irrigation, significantly cutting expenses and improving productivity.

The Prime Minister further noted that the benefits of solar energy are reaching remote areas as well, including tribal regions where solar mini-grids have improved access to electricity and quality of life. Describing this trend as a “solar revolution,” he urged citizens to actively participate in the movement and promote sustainable practices for a cleaner and more energy-secure future.
