Government Launches Upgraded ‘Rajmarg Pravesh’ Portal to Simplify Highway Access Approvals
New Delhi | 14 March 2026
The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has introduced an upgraded version of the Rajmarg Pravesh Portal to make the process of obtaining access permissions and No Objection Certificates along national highways more efficient. The platform was launched by Union Minister Nitin Gadkari with the aim of improving transparency, speeding up approvals and providing a simpler digital process for applicants.
The portal will allow businesses, organisations and individuals to apply online for permissions to develop facilities along National Highways in India. Through this single platform, applicants can seek approvals for projects such as fuel stations, restaurants, dhabas, rest areas, residential properties and other wayside amenities that support travellers and highway users.
Officials said the digital system will also help both government agencies and private companies apply for permissions to install essential utilities along highways. These include infrastructure like water pipelines, gas pipelines, optical fibre cables and electricity lines. The upgraded portal combines multiple approval processes into one interface, allowing users to upload documents, submit applications online and monitor the progress of their requests in real time.
Earlier, applicants often had to visit several offices and submit physical paperwork, which could slow down the approval process and create uncertainty about application status. The new platform introduces features such as paperless submissions, online payments, time-bound responses and real-time tracking. It also includes a GIS-based system that helps automatically identify the correct highway location and relevant authority, reducing manual errors and speeding up decisions.
According to the ministry, the improved portal is expected to strengthen digital governance in the highways sector while making it easier to develop infrastructure and services along India’s rapidly expanding national highway Government Launches Upgraded ‘Rajmarg Pravesh’ Portal to Simplify Highway Access Approvals
