CISF Plans Stronger Defence Against Drone and Cyber Threats, Says DG Praveer Ranjan

Bhubaneswar | 5 March 2026

The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) is preparing to strengthen its capabilities to tackle emerging threats such as drone attacks and cyber intrusions at critical installations across the country. Speaking to the media in Bhubaneswar ahead of the force’s 57th Raising Day, CISF Director General Praveer Ranjan said the organisation will focus heavily on advanced training and modern technology to address these challenges. He stated, "In the next modernisation plan, we will take up drone and anti-drone training in a big way," highlighting the growing importance of aerial security.

To boost its preparedness, the CISF has already set up a drone training and anti-drone capability centre at its unit in Behror, Rajasthan. The Ministry of Home Affairs has also approved the creation of a Remote Pilot Training Organisation that will train personnel in drone operations and anti-drone systems. The force has been designated as the nodal agency to handle aerial threats at vital installations. Along with this, the CISF is also focusing on cyber safety, with the DG noting, "CISF is also going a big way to develop its capacity in cyber security. We have already developed some cyber commandos."

Under its modernisation plan for 2026–2030, the force has identified 76 projects worth ₹819 crore. These include training on drone technologies, building an integrated cyber security laboratory, setting up a dedicated data centre, and developing a zero-trust network to secure its digital systems. The initiatives aim to ensure stronger protection of India’s critical infrastructure as digital systems become more widely used.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah will attend the Raising Day celebrations at the CISF’s Mundali unit and inaugurate residential projects for personnel in Kolkata and Delhi. He will also lay the foundation stones for new reserve battalions in Assam, Maharashtra, and Madhya Pradesh. With a strength of over two lakh personnel, the CISF currently protects 361 vital installations across India, including airports, metro networks, power plants, nuclear facilities, seaports, and government buildings, while continuing recruitment to further strengthen the force.
