Anil Kapoor Powers “Subedaar”, But The Film Falls Slightly Short Of Its Big Promise

Maharashtra | 5 March 2026

The action drama “Subedaar”, directed by Suresh Triveni, brings a strong performance from Anil Kapoor and an interesting story set in the hinterlands. The film follows a retired Army officer, Arjun Maurya, who unexpectedly becomes a security officer for a powerful local goon. The story mixes action, emotion and personal struggles, giving the audience a glimpse into a world filled with corruption and tension.

The plot moves forward as Arjun Maurya deals with his own personal pain while working under the arrogant gangster Prince, played by Aditya Rawal. Prince, along with his jailed sister Babli Didi, played by Mona Singh, is involved in troubling activities, including keeping a woman captive. At the same time, Arjun’s strained relationship with his daughter Shyama, played by Radhika Madan, adds an emotional layer to the story.

The film begins with great energy and builds strong curiosity in the first half. Several scenes are powerful enough to make viewers cheer. However, as the story progresses, the film starts to lose some of its impact. The repeated confrontations between Arjun and Prince slow down the pace, and the climax, which was expected to be exciting, feels rushed and less satisfying.

Despite these issues, Anil Kapoor stands out with an impressive performance at the age of 69. His expressions, body language and screen presence keep the audience engaged throughout the film. While “Subedaar” shows strong potential and interesting ideas, it ultimately feels like a film that promised more than it delivered. The movie is currently streaming on Amazon Prime Video.
