Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese extended his greetings to India on its 80th Independence Day, praising the country’s progress, democratic credentials and growing economic importance. His message also focused on the strong India-Australia relationship and the contribution of the Indian-origin community in Australia, which he described as an important link between the two nations.
Reflecting on India’s journey since independence, Albanese said, “I send my best wishes to everyone celebrating India’s 80th Independence Day. The road to an independent India was not easy, but through the strength of will, faith and determination, it made a new beginning filled with hope. In the eight decades since that extraordinary day, India has continued to grow stronger.” He also praised India’s achievements, saying, “Today, as the world’s largest democracy and fastest-growing major economy, India continues to astonish us with the scale of its achievements and the vastness of its potential.”
Albanese highlighted the significance of the occasion for Australians of Indian origin and their role in strengthening bilateral ties. He said, “I know the Indian Australian community will look back on the past 80 years with pride, celebrate its long and rich heritage and also look towards a future full of hope. Together, we celebrate all the things that connect our countries, from our strong economic and strategic partnership to the enormous contribution of the vibrant Indian Australian community in our country.”
Looking towards the future, Albanese emphasised the potential for deeper cooperation between Australia and India. He said, “We are excited to deepen engagement between Australia and India across new and growing areas, with the significant support of people of Indian origin living in Australia, who are a living link in our valuable friendship. I celebrate with you India’s history and culture, its rich diversity and extraordinary achievements, as well as the bright future that lies ahead in our shared future.” His message reflects the expanding partnership between the two countries and the enduring people-to-people connection supporting their relationship.
