UP Plans Tent City at Sharda Barrage to Boost Eco-Tourism

Lucknow, March 26, 2026

Sharda Barrage in Lakhimpur Kheri is set to emerge as a major tourism destination, with the Uttar Pradesh Eco Tourism Development Board (UPETDB) initiating plans to develop a tent city across 2.67 acres through private participation. The project aims to transform the scenic riverside location into a unique Accommodation and Wellness Tourism Destination, offering visitors a nature-based travel experience.

Announcing the initiative, Uttar Pradesh Tourism and Culture Minister Jaiveer Singh said that Sharda Barrage will soon be developed as a prominent tourism hub in the state. The proposed tent city will come up near village Kothiya in Sadar tehsil and is expected to become a major attraction for tourists visiting the region.

Located close to Dudhwa National Park, the site will be integrated with modern wellness facilities to provide visitors a peaceful retreat amid natural surroundings. The minister said the initiative will not only enhance tourism but also generate new employment opportunities and support regional economic development.

Officials said the area lies between Dudhwa National Park and Katarniaghat Wildlife Sanctuary, significantly enhancing its eco-tourism potential. The proposed tent city aims to offer visitors a unique opportunity to stay close to nature while enjoying carefully designed accommodation and wellness facilities.

The UP Eco Tourism Development Board has invited bids from private partners for the development of the project. The last date for submission of tenders is April 30, 2026, by 6:00 PM. Interested applicants can obtain further information by contacting upetdb@gmail.com or visiting www.upecoboard.up.gov.in/en/tenders. Tenders have been invited through the e-tender portal http://etender.up.nic.in, where firms and agencies can submit applications within the stipulated timeline.

Speaking on the project, Additional Chief Secretary, Tourism, Culture and Religious Affairs, Amrit Abhijat said, “Sharda Barrage holds immense potential to emerge as a prominent eco-tourism destination in Uttar Pradesh. The proposed tent city will offer visitors a distinctive nature-based accommodation experience while promoting sustainable tourism practices, strengthening local livelihoods and enhancing the region’s overall tourism infrastructure.”
