Political Row Erupts Over Mathura Death as Akhilesh Yadav Questions Law and Order in Uttar Pradesh

Lucknow/Mathura | March 21, 2026

A political debate has intensified in Uttar Pradesh after the death of an individual known as ‘Farsa Baba’ in Mathura, with Akhilesh Yadav criticising the state government over law and order concerns. The Samajwadi Party chief linked the incident to broader issues of public safety, also referring to a recent student killing in Varanasi.

Speaking to reporters, Akhilesh Yadav alleged that the situation in the state has deteriorated, claiming that incidents of violence are rising. He said, “Where is the BJP not creating tension? If this is the way a 'Sadhu' is treated in Mathura, Vrindavan, at a religious place, and in Kashi, where the Prime Minister has been elected several times, a student openly killed another student. Bullets are being fired openly. In the entire state, anyone can do whatever they want. There is no law and order left, and if anyone wants to learn how to turn things into hatred, they can learn from the BJP.”

He further accused the ruling party of misusing police machinery, stating that law enforcement was being diverted from its core duties. The remarks came amid protests in the Kosi area of Mathura, where locals blocked roads and raised concerns over the circumstances surrounding the death.

Meanwhile, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed condolences to the family of the deceased and directed officials to take swift action. He instructed authorities to identify those responsible and ensure strict legal proceedings.

Providing clarification, Senior Superintendent of Police Shlok Kumar stated that the incident occurred between 3:00 am and 4:00 am due to low visibility caused by dense fog. According to police, the victim had stopped a vehicle on suspicion when a Rajasthan-registered truck hit him from behind. Officials confirmed that the stopped vehicle was carrying grocery items, while the truck involved in the collision was transporting wires, ruling out any connection to cattle smuggling. Investigations are still ongoing related to the incident.
