PM Narendra Modi to Launch Development Projects Worth ₹16,450 Crore in Kerala and Tamil Nadu

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Kerala and Tamil Nadu on March 11 to inaugurate, dedicate to the nation, and lay the foundation stone for several major development projects worth around ₹16,450 crore. According to the Prime Minister’s Office, the projects will cover key sectors such as petroleum and natural gas infrastructure, highways, rural connectivity, railways and renewable energy. The Prime Minister will first attend a programme in Ernakulam in the afternoon before travelling to Tiruchirappalli later in the evening for another set of project launches.


In Kerala, projects worth about ₹10,800 crore will be inaugurated or launched. One of the major initiatives includes the foundation stone for a Polypropylene Unit at the Kochi Refinery of Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited, being developed at a cost of more than ₹5,500 crore. The unit will have an annual production capacity of 400 kilo tonnes and is expected to strengthen domestic polymer manufacturing while reducing reliance on imports. The Prime Minister will also inaugurate two key highway projects under National Highways Authority of India, including the six-laning of the Thalapady-Chengala section of National Highway 66 and the Kozhikode Bypass between Vengalam and Ramanattukara, both aimed at improving travel time and boosting trade and tourism.


Along with road infrastructure, several projects focused on connectivity and transportation will also be launched. The Prime Minister will inaugurate 23 rural roads built under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana to improve access to markets, education and healthcare in remote areas. He will also inaugurate the redeveloped railway stations of Shoranur Junction, Kuttippuram Railway Station and Changanassery Railway Station under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme. In addition, the Shoranur-Nilambur railway line electrification project will be dedicated to the nation, and a new train service between Palakkad and Pollachi will be flagged off. The Prime Minister will also lay the foundation stone for a 50 MW floating solar project at West Kallada in Kollam district to strengthen renewable energy capacity.


Later in the day in Tamil Nadu, projects worth around ₹5,650 crore will be launched. The Prime Minister will lay the foundation stone for a City Gas Distribution Network by Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited in Nilgiris and Erode districts, with an investment of over ₹3,680 crore. The project aims to provide PNG connections to more than 8.8 lakh households and set up over 200 CNG stations. He will also dedicate a lube blending plant developed by Indian Oil Corporation Limited at Manali. Additional projects include the inauguration of 89 rural roads across the state, the foundation stone for a greenfield bypass near Gangaikonda Cholapuram on National Highway 81, and the flagging off of two Amrit Bharat Express trains along with other passenger services to enhance rail connectivity between southern states and parts of eastern India.

During his visit to Ernakulam in Kerala, the Prime Minister will launch projects worth about ₹10,800 crore. A key highlight will be the foundation stone for a Polypropylene Unit at the Kochi Refinery of Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited, aimed at boosting domestic manufacturing. He will also inaugurate major highway projects and several rural roads under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana to improve travel and connectivity in the region.


The Prime Minister will also inaugurate upgraded railway stations including Shoranur Junction and launch a new train service between Palakkad and Pollachi. In addition, a 50 MW floating solar project will be launched in Kollam district to strengthen renewable energy capacity and support sustainable development.


Later in the evening in Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu, projects worth around ₹5,650 crore will be launched. These include a City Gas Distribution Network in Nilgiris and Erode districts and a new plant by Indian Oil Corporation Limited. The Prime Minister will also flag off new train services and rural road projects to improve connectivity across the state.
