UGC Calls on Universities to Join Post-Budget Webinar on Education and Skill Development Initiatives

The University Grants Commission has urged higher education institutions across India to inform students and faculty about an upcoming post-budget webinar focused on education, skills and university development. The event is scheduled for March 9 and forms part of a wider series of discussions organised after the presentation of the Union Budget 2026–27. Universities have been asked to share the details widely so that members of the academic community can participate in the sessions.


The webinar aims to examine how major announcements made in the budget can be effectively implemented through cooperation between different ministries and departments. It is being coordinated by the Department of Higher Education under the education ministry. In a message to institutions, UGC financial adviser Sudeep Singh Jain explained that the discussion will focus on several important areas. He said, “The webinar topic will cover important Budget Announcements, inter alia, relating to education, skilling, creative industries, inclusive capacity building, and institutional infrastructure, which require close coordination among concerned ministries and departments for timely and outcome-oriented implementation.”


According to the commission, the webinar will begin with an opening session addressed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This will be followed by multiple breakout sessions focusing on specific announcements related to education and skill development. The programme will conclude with remarks from Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. Institutions have been requested to participate in the opening, breakout and closing sessions through YouTube links shared by the commission.


Several key proposals announced in the Union Budget will be discussed during the webinar. These include the creation of a high-powered “Education to Employment and Enterprise” standing committee for the services sector, the establishment of Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming and Comics labs in thousands of schools, and plans for new university townships and telescope infrastructure facilities. The Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship will also host a session on strengthening India’s caregiving workforce. As announced by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, about 1.5 lakh caregivers will be trained through programmes aligned with the National Skills Qualifications Framework.
