Singer Parleen Gill rediscovers rhythm in Lucknow, says “yahan ki har baat mein music hain”

Singer Parleen Gill, known for popular tracks like Juda and The Blue Angel, is back in Lucknow after many years, and the visit has stirred deep nostalgia. Recalling his earlier days, he said, “The last time I was here was around 2009, right after Indian Idol.” Though he visited briefly in between, this trip felt different and emotionally special for him.


Parleen is in the city to attend a solo singing competition at IIM Lucknow and was instantly drawn to its winter charm and youthful energy. Sharing his experience, he said, “Winter is always beautiful, and luckily I am here at this time of the year. I am impressed with the unique energy that the youngsters here bring along.” He praised Lucknow’s cultural soul, adding that the city’s deep connection with art and tradition is why “yahan ki har baat mein music hain.”


Talking about his craft, Parleen stressed the importance of discipline in music. “Singing demands regular riyaaz (practice),” he said, adding that lack of practice shows immediately in performance. According to him, every aspiring singer must focus on sur, taal, voice control and expression to truly grow in the field.


The singer also spoke about staying away from judging major reality shows in the past. “I wasn’t mentally prepared back then when I got an offer for judging a reality show as I felt I cannot do justice to the role, but today, I’m in a much better place.” On a personal note, Parleen shared his grief over the loss of close friend Prashant Tamang, saying, “Honestly, I haven’t coped yet. I’m still in shock and disbelief. Life is so unpredictable; some losses take a long time to sink in.”

Sharing his thoughts on music, the singer stressed the need for constant practice. “Singing demands regular riyaaz (practice),” he said, adding that any break in discipline is clearly reflected in performance. According to him, sur, taal, voice control and expression are the most important elements every singer must work on.


Parleen also spoke about turning down reality show judging offers in the past, saying, “I wasn’t mentally prepared back then when I got an offer for judging a reality show as I felt I cannot do justice to the role, but today, I’m in a much better place.” On a personal note, he expressed grief over losing close friend Prashant Tamang, saying, “Honestly, I haven’t coped yet. I’m still in shock and disbelief. Life is so unpredictable; some losses take a long time to sink in.”
