Rain Relief Ahead: IMD Predicts Showers Across 12 States

New Delhi, April 26,2026

As large parts of India continue to reel under intense heat, the latest forecast signals a welcome shift in weather conditions. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has indicated that multiple regions are likely to receive rainfall, offering much-needed relief from soaring temperatures and heatwave conditions.

According to IMD, northeastern states including Assam, Meghalaya, and Arunachal Pradesh are expected to witness heavy rainfall along with thunderstorms and strong winds between April 27 and May 1. Wind speeds in some areas may reach 50–60 km/h, raising the possibility of localized disruptions such as waterlogging and reduced visibility.

Weather changes are also expected in northern and northwestern regions. Areas like Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand may receive light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning. At the same time, Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh are likely to experience scattered showers and gusty winds, which could bring partial respite from the ongoing heat.

In addition, hailstorm activity has been forecast for Jharkhand and parts of Karnataka, while eastern states such as Bihar, West Bengal, and Odisha may see moderate rainfall with strong winds. A slight dip in temperatures is expected after April 28, though heatwave conditions may persist in some regions, making this change a temporary but welcome relief.
