Vice President Highlights Role of Yoga and Naturopathy in Combating Lifestyle Diseases

Vice-President C. P. Radhakrishnan on Sunday stressed the growing importance of yoga and naturopathy in addressing lifestyle-related diseases. Speaking at the 81st Foundation Day of Nisargopachar Ashram in Pune, he encouraged people to adopt a balanced and nature-aligned way of living for better health and well-being.
Describing the ashram as more than just an institution, he said it represents a philosophy rooted in the ideals of Mahatma Gandhi, focusing on simple and disciplined living. He emphasised that health should not only be seen as the absence of illness but as a complete state of physical, mental, and spiritual well-being.
Highlighting the rising cases of non-communicable diseases, the Vice-President called for greater attention to preventive healthcare. He underlined the importance of balanced nutrition, regular exercise, and mental wellness. Drawing from his past experience as Governor, he also acknowledged the value of traditional healing practices followed by tribal communities, describing them as an important part of India’s cultural heritage.
He further stated that yoga and naturopathy should complement modern medicine rather than replace it. Referring to government initiatives promoting wellness and traditional systems, he said these practices are gaining global recognition.
